High Percentage Golf Learning System

I am Sidney Wong, a long time golf student.  I have been taking golf lessons for over 30 years and this is my opportunity to share, online, what I have learned about this great game.  This blog describes the basic golf skills, mental and physical, that every golfer must develop in order to play their best golf.  It is a follow-on to the book I wrote, High Percentage Golf.  Instead of writing a second edition of my book, I am writing this blog to document my journey in learning the game of golf.

I like what Bobby Jones said in his book, “Bobby Jones on Golf,” that a consistent golf swing is both simple and graceful: “The sound swing flows from beginning to end, but it flows powerfully, and is graceful because it is correct, rather than because it is made so.  To me, the performance of the perfect golf stroke is as much a thing of beauty as can be found in any of the performing arts.  The simple swing that is also sound will be susceptible to repetition through a number of performances.  This is the basis of consistency on the golf course.”

Note that Bobby Jones’ focus is on the swing motion.  The key to a consistent golf swing is to focus on the motion and not the ball.  The best golfers realize that the game of golf is not about hitting the ball.  In order develop a consistent golf swing, the focus must be on the swing instead of focusing on trying to hit the ball or trying to help the ball into the air.

It is my goal to show what must be done to focus on executing an efficient and rhythmic swing motion and adopt an attitude that “the ball will go someplace” in order to develop a consistent golf swing and a consistent golf game.

I have written blog articles that describe what you must feel in the golf swing and what your mind must focus on to play your best golf.

For those in a hurry, and who isn’t these days, the essence of my High Percentage Golf Learning System is found in my golf swing “manifesto” blog post: What You Must Know About the Golf Swing

If you want to learn how to stop focusing on trying to hit the ball and start focusing on the swing motion, I recommend you do the following:

  1. View videos 2 to 6 describing an effective setup and pre-shot routine
  2. View video 10 describing the back swing
  3. Read the blog articles in the Mandatory category
